S-A-N-T-A

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

So, we spent the weekend at one of spoony’s aunts’.

They had these stocking hangers over the fireplace that spelled out SANTA…

At spoony’s encouraging, I re-arranged them to spell something else.
Nobody noticed for a day, until spoony’s mom exclaimed: “Why does that spell SATAN!!?”.

Updates and stuff

Monday, August 27th, 2007

Wheew. It’s been a busy two weeks.

I didn’t mention this until now, but we (Spoony and I) had to move rather
quickly, as our landlord lost his mortgage.
This ended up being a good thing, as we found a house (rather than a duplex)
with the same monthly rent. We have a bit more space, and rather big front and
back yards.

This past weekend we also visited Spoony’s family, which was (as usual) pleasant.

I really wish I had more to write about, but I’ve not had much time to do
anything fun.

New job

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

I have a new job as a perl programmer for a call center / telemarketing place. Yeah, that’s kind of eew,
but the environment there is a lot more open.

I do indeed mean open; both their in-house asterix dialing program and their HR system are on source forge.

Late-night fun with the neighbors

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

So, last night spoony woke me up because someone was knocking on the front door.

I got up, and sure enough there was someone there. I forget his name, but he lives in the other half of the duplex with
Jason (the landlord’s brother).
He said: “Jason’s unconscious! I need to call 911! do you have a phone?”
I gave him spoony’s phone, since mine was near dead.

While he’s on the phone with the 911 emergency operators, Jason stumbles out, saying “I’m okay. Are you calling 911? here, gimme”
and Jason proceeds to tell the 911 he’s fine.

The only other part I heard was something about him accidentally taking epinephrine.

Strange night. (Actually, it was 3 AM or so)

Odin downtime

Saturday, July 7th, 2007

It seems the server I keep at my parent’s house, odin, is having disk corruption. I shut it down yesterday, and sometime today or tomorrow I should attempt data rescue. I don’t think anything would be lost even if the disk is totally trashed, but it’s the principal of the thing…

This effects the cosine sine server, since it ran on odin.

Paintball

Sunday, July 1st, 2007

Spoony and I played paintball with Yetr2, his cousin alex, and spoony’s friend
Deege. I suspect I will be sore tomorrow.

Down with the sickness!

Friday, March 30th, 2007

I haven’t updated this journal much because, well, I have been
quite sick.

I have been feeling ill since "entry/irishcon_2007.html">irishcon 2007, and it only got worse
when we got back to town. Thursday of last week I was feeling bad
enough to go to the doctor.

Since TJ had strep throat recently, it was a safe bet that is
what I had. The doctor agreed, and prescribed me some antibiotic
called Keflex (spelling?). This got rid of some of my sickness, but
I was still coughing after 5 days of taking it.

Going back to the doctor, he provided me with 7 days of another
antibiotic, with the assumption that I have walking pneumonia. So,
after 3 days of the new antibiotics I’m starting to feel more
human.

St. Patrick's Day 2007

Monday, March 19th, 2007

This year for St. Patrick’s day Spoony’s friends Eric and Kat
invited us to join them in Savannah, Georgia. There is apparently a
big parade there on Paddy’s day. Who knew?

It turned out a fellow siner, mizgiwir lives in Savannah, so we
made some plans to meet him. I also invited possum and yetr2 along,
without really mentioning this to spoony…

Somehow or another Yetr2 ended up driving us in his parent’s
van.

Through most of the trip I was sleeping, as I had (and have)
a bad cold strep throat.

Helen Visit: Part 3

Monday, March 5th, 2007

We watched the rest of BPS, and then Boondock Saints. Good
movie! Sometime between the two, Spoony went to sleep. I think
Helen did not fancy Boondock Saints very much, but she stayed up
for the whole thing. I stayed up a bit longer, playing some
dragonball Z game with Josh. PB then started playing Vice City, and
I was proceeded to be beaten at Mario Kart DS by Syrra.

At 3:00AM, we all called it quits.

Spoony woke me up with great effort. In my tired stupor, I tried
to explain that because of the bag of remotes, I did not need to
wake up. I do not remember this very well.

I managed to (finally) take some photos. I always forget such
things. I’ll upload them soon.

We got Helen to the airport in good time, said our goodbyes, and
came back home. Syrra and co. were still sleeping in our living
room, so we went back to bed. I think we all managed to wake up at
11:00 or noon.

Apparently, we did not close chibi chii (our not-quite-adult
cat) with us, so Josh had to defend himself with a broom all night
long. He said he didn’t remember doing so at all.

After everyone was showered or otherwise clean, we set out in
Josh’s car to get lunch and pocky. The first oriental market we
went to was closed, so we went to the (much larger) one on 34th
street. There was pocky and numerous other … things. Including
some unlabled jerky / dehydrated meat. I was going to get it, but I
chickened out in the end. It was probably just beef, but I didn’t
feel like experimenting. We ate lunch at Marbo, a very good
Californian-Chinese-American restuarant.

Of course, there was the incident with the egret and josh’s car,
which deserves its own seperate entry.

Helen Visit: Part 2

Sunday, March 4th, 2007

Morning: There are siners sleeping in my house!
We all stayed up until about 3:00AM watching BPS and talking.
Everyone but me is still asleep.

We have a schedule of sorts for today. We are going to eat
breakfast at IHOP, and then go to the swampy park near my parent’s
house. With any luck, helen will get to see an aligator, the
quintessential animal of Florida (I think, anyway).

After that, we will stop by my parent’s house to be polite and
suchlike.

Continuing south, we shall go over the Skyway (Helen wanted to
see it) and to Anna Maria Island, so Syrra can see a beach. She has
never seen one before.

PB also wants to stop at a Goodwill (a sort of thrift store) to
see if they have any computer parts.

Evening: We did everything on the schedule,
even though it was cold, wet, and cloudy. Helen must have brought
the weather from England with her. At the park, helen took photos
of PB and I comitting a misdemeanor, among lots of other photos.
She also took a picture of the IHOP!

I think we all had entirely too much fun at the Goodwill,
playing with various hats and things. I think both Spoony and Helen
bought some books.
