Perl Oasis 2009

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

So, in addition to the new job, another interesting thing that happened: I delivered a talk at Perl Oasis 2009.

I was quite nervous, but it turned out alright. I hope next year I can give a more interesting talk.

Oh, also I met a bunch cool perl people, including Jonathon Rockway, who is coincidently one of my new co-workers.

New Job

Friday, January 9th, 2009

Just in case the previous post did not make it obvious, I (was) job hunting. I never really talked about my job at R-Stream (not because it was bad, but) because I was working a lot. It was fun. My co-workers were great. Two of them friends I had met outside of work. My (former?) supervisor is a great guy, and work was challenging.

I suppose that all good things must come to pass, as I was informed two weeks ago that my last paycheck would be January 16th of this year. The reason being entirely financial… This is rather disturbing news to get around Christmas, and I went into a frenzy of job-hunting, as is hinted at in my previous post.

I believe it paid off, as I was offered a job at Infinity Interactive, working with some brilliant people that I’ve become familiar with in the #moose channel on magnet. :)

Camping with Ruby

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

I am applying for a job that wanted a code sample written in Ruby.

I’m sure there’s something my ~/bin written in ruby I could have used, but instead of doing that, I downloaded the Camping microframework and put together a very simple time-tracking application.

It does not feature authentication (right now) because camping/session.rb seems to be broken.

Here’s the source code: jot.rb
